Paris Saint-Germain dismantled Bayer Leverkusen 7–2 in a Champions League clash that descended into first-half chaos, featuring five goals, two red cards, and two penalties in a whirlwind 45 minutes that stunned the BayArena.
Luis Enrique’s side surged to a 4–1 halftime lead, turning Xabi Alonso’s previously imperious home record into rubble. The drama began early, with William Pacho heading Leverkusen in front in the seventh minute. But what followed was a frenetic mix of controversy and clinical finishing.
In the 25th minute, Leverkusen earned a penalty after Illia Zabarnyi fouled Christian Kofane, but Alex Grimaldo struck the post. Minutes later, Robert Andrich was sent off for an elbow on Desire Doué, a decision upheld by VAR. PSG capitalized, only for Zabarnyi to be dismissed for denying a clear scoring opportunity, leveling the numbers.
Aleix Garcia converted the second penalty to equalize, but PSG erupted in stoppage time. Doué restored the lead in the 41st minute, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia curled in a sublime effort three minutes later, and Doué added his second with a low finish in the 45+3rd.
The second half brought no relief for the hosts. Nuno Mendes headed in PSG’s fifth in the 50th minute, before Garcia responded with a thunderous strike to make it 5–2. However, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha added two more to complete the rout.
The emphatic win propels PSG to the top of Group H on goal difference, while Leverkusen drop to third. “A breathtaking first half,” Enrique said post-match.
